Ballroom Newsletter, Siskiyou County & Northern California – April 29th 2025

Dear All,

Happy Hybrid Week, kiddie-winkies.  This week we will have one dance from April (Tango, Wednesday night) and one dance from May (Waltz, Thursday night).  We considered teaching an actual hybrid dance to celebrate Hybrid Week (either the Wango or the Taltz) but decided that one lesson in a dance at which we would then have to work furiously and ferociously to invent in less than a day wasn’t in anybody’s best interest, so: dances as originally scheduled.

We will wrap up the Tango this Wednesday. Next Wednesday we will begin the Rumba.  For those of you only recently joining us, the good news is that the Rumba is an easy dance, (slow, simple and sensuous {the three “S”’s of dance}) which will function as an excellent introduction to all the Latin dances (especially the Salsa {hint, hint}), so don’t miss out by missing class.

And for those of you who are more advanced (been with us longer), the Rumba will give you a chance to hone those skills you have been developing over the years and become world class hip-slingers (if you know what I mean {and if you don’t, you really need to come to class to find out!}).

Also, the Waltz is the one dance you will most likely encounter at social gatherings (weddings, anniversary parties, country=western dances, etc.) and is also relatively simple (relative being relative) to learn.  You should all come to this one, too, to round out your dancing abilities.

So, let’s call May “Beginner’s Month” and encourage one and all to get their feet wet, so to speak, by joining us for a month of sensuous grace (or graceful sensuousness, depending on your preferences).  While we’re at it, let’s also call it “Honer’s Month” and allow everyone to take a stab at building their skills.  (Incidentally, “taking a stab” is not traditionally considered a ballroom skill {more of a fencing activity, actually} so don’t take it too literally.)

‘Nuff said.  Looking forward to seeing you all there, then.

Cheers,

Rick and Peggy Nixon
